SnagIt - capture the desktop in any way possible
More and more people are interested in capturing their desktops. The reasons for this are numerous. For example, a user may want to capture an error message of an application and send it to a developer. Or he may want to save a program notification, so he can analyze it later on. Unfortunately, the capturing tool included in Windows is extremely basic and doesn't have too many features. Capturing the desktop as a video file is out of the question when we talk about the Windows capturing tool.
Still, there are certain applications on the market which offer complete capturing possibilities. One of them is SnagIt. This Windows application allows you to capture your desktop in any way you want it and save it in a wide range of file formats. After installing the application, the user will be presented with a simple and graphical interface which allows him to easily select the capturing mode that he would like to use.
By default, SnagIt is set to capture certain areas of the desktop as an image file. As such, it can automatically detect program windows, buttons, error messages and so on and it can focus on them, without the user having to select that certain area manually. After the area has been captured, a new interface is displayed, in which the user can edit the captured image in a similar way to editing photos in MS Paint or Adobe Photoshop. As such, one can add various arrows or callouts to the captured image, to highlight a certain area and he can also apply numerous artistic effects to the image.
After the screenshot has been edited, the user can save it in a wide range of graphical formats, like JPEG, PNG, BMP and so on. But the functionality of SnagIt doesn't stop here, as it also allows you to record your desktop and save it as a video file. As such, the region of the screen that should be recorded can be freely selected. For saving time, the user can create various capturing profiles, that can perform certain actions automatically, like automatically uploading a screenshot to Facebook.
